About is a marketplace exchange for opportunity-zone investments into real estate and businesses. The company was founded by Peter Hirshberg (CEO) and Marcia Kadanoff (President) and Barry Watkins (Chief Product Officer).

The company operates in an Opportunity Zone based in the Excelsior district of San Francisco, one of the few opportunity zones established in San Francisco. Opportunity Zones were established by legislation passed in 2017 and amended in 2018 to funnel investment dollars into 8,700 low-income communities across the U.S. Under most circumstances, accredited investors who choose to invest in opportunity zones can reduce the capital gains they might otherwise pay by 15%. Key to the legislation is the fact that capital gains taxes will be waived on any new investments into QOZ real estate or businesses over a 10-year planning horizon.*

Lighthouse One was incubated at and is currently seeking seed investment. Maker City will continue to operate as an advisory firm and catalyst to cities and private sector companies interested in creating new forms of civic engagement and economic opportunity.

*Many restrictions apply. Check with your CPA or financial advisor before making any investment in Qualified Opportunity Zone businesses.
